Did you know… Switzerland is the birthplace of the Red Cross. The humanitarian organisation was founded in Geneva in 1863 after witnessing the horrors of the Battle of Solferino. The Red Cross is now a global symbol of aid and protection in conflict zones, and its emblem—a red cross on a white background—is the reverse of the Swiss flag.

THE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Let the journey begin.

Europe, the world’s second-smallest continent, is situated entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

Europe is home to 44 countries, each offering a rich tapestry of cultures, histories, and landscapes, from the snow-capped peaks of the Alps to the sun-drenched beaches of the Mediterranean.

Switzerland has a varied climate due to its diverse topography, with mountainous regions experiencing cooler temperatures and alpine conditions. In lower-lying areas, such as the Swiss Plateau, summers are generally warm, and winters are mild. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year, with snowfall common in mountainous regions during the winter months.

The currency used in Switzerland is the Swiss Franc (CHF), which has been the official currency since its adoption in 1850.
